JMI

Our mission

Every young person deserves a real instrument, a great teacher and a path to lead.

Mission statement

JMI exists to make world-class music education, quality instruments and leadership development accessible to young people ages 3 to 20 — especially in communities where talent is abundant and opportunity is not.

Learn Music. Build Character. Lead Forward.

3–20

One continuous pathway, from first rhythm to the professional stage.

5

5

Regions served: North America, South & Central America, Africa, Eastern & Western Europe.

What we commit to

Six promises to every student.

  1. 01

    A real instrument

Every student plays a JMI instrument that is set up by hand, inspected and serviced — never a toy.

  2. 02

    Exceptional teaching

Certified teachers, a structured 3–20 curriculum and conservatory-level standards in every classroom.

  3. 03

    Leadership through music

Ensembles that teach students to listen, prepare, collaborate, create and serve.

  4. 04

    Rooted in community

Students learn the music of their own culture alongside the great traditions of the world.

  5. 05

    Open pathways

Clear routes from first lesson to conservatory auditions, university and careers in music.

  6. 06

    Built to last

Local teacher development, repair networks and honest evaluation so programs endure for years.

Our standard

Conservatory standards. Community reach.

We hold every classroom to the discipline of the world's great music schools — careful technique, serious repertoire, regular performance — and bring that standard to neighborhoods, schools and countries that have been left out.
